It's February - Let's go Small!
Did you know January is officially “Get Organized Month?” It is, according to the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO), of which I am a proud member. But January is also lose weight month, start meditating month, put away the Christmas decorations month, hope for no snow days just yet month.
Well January is behind you now, and February launches with Groundhog Day. When it comes to organizing, if you feel like you keep doing the same thing over and over again, let’s make this the month to change that. If you are like most of us, you have a consistent nagging voice telling you to get organized. Because every time you open that insane closet, or walk through the overfull garage, you feel a little…something not good. Stress. Anger. Failure. So you resolve to spend a weekend making it right. You buy a pile of storage bins at your local big box and know that’s all you need to get it done. But somehow it doesn’t go as planned. Maybe you run out of time, or boxes, or passion for the task. So you give up, and hope for another long weekend when you can get motivated again. Maybe you do get it organized, but it’s undone within a few days or weeks. It’s a maddening cycle that keeps people like me in business.
Let’s try something new this month. Let’s not go big. Let’s go small. Let’s spend this month doing projects that take 30 minutes or less and require no new stuff. This week I’m gonna give you the basics for organizing ANY space, and a few projects you can get done TODAY. Then each week in February, I’ll offer you a small project to get your momentum going. By the end of the month, some of those not good feelings will be dissipating as step-by-step, little-by-little, your world gets more organized. But first, a quick lesson.
StepOne: How to Organize Anything
Good luck! Let’s do this, February.
