Fred Flintstone Things to be Grateful For...

I like my feet.

It’s not because they are especially pretty. They are fairly large, and I fully inherited my father’s Fred Flintsone toes. But I like ‘em. Regular readers of my blog know that I love yoga, and in yoga I often find myself studying my bare feet. When I’m looking at them upside down, or up in the air, or trying to feel “all four corners of them on the floor” – that’s when I like them the most. They are wide. They are kinda fat and strong. They give me good balance. They hold me up, they carry me through life. They walked my newborns across the floor in the wee hours of the night, and carried me to the top of Huayna Picchu in Peru. They get me through the airport, and they move my two ton vehicle from place to place effortlessly. They can scratch my dog’s ears and balance me on a stand up paddleboard. I am grateful for my feet.

Just a few of the steps up Huayna Picchu that my feet took me.

Huayna Picchu from afar… walked from base of that big rock at the back…

November is, for obvious reasons, gratitude month. I think sometimes we try to be too grand when we think about being grateful. The little gratitudes in our life add up to a very powerful whole that makes the bad things not so bad. I’m grateful for my feet. And chocolate chips. For dry erase boards and ice cold water. For flowers, especially tulips and gebera daisies. For memes of talking dogs and dogs in costumes. That my son never minds me hugging him in public. For how well my dishwasher works, even if you don’t rinse.

Every day should be gratitude day. We should be looking for what we are grateful for all the time because it has a way of lightening the stuff we are not grateful for. And when I’m not as happy with my belly, or my hair or my whatever, I can always take a look at my Fred Flintstone feet.

Four Thousand Weeks
by Oliver Burkeman

I thought this was a productivity book. Oh boy is it something else. Finished it weeks ago and the themes and ideas keep resurfacing. Highly recommend.

The Year of Yes
by Shonda Rhimes

Shonda Rhimes is the creator of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Bridgerton and soooo much more. A TV genius. The audiobook is read by Shonda herself which adds delightful humor and energy to this amazing memoir of what happens if you just choose to say yes to life’s opportunities.

I have to acknowledge that the last few weeks/months have had a certain amount of intensity for me, and perhaps for you too. I’ve been finding wisdom and inspiration from this post by Positive Intelligence Founder Shirzad Chamine.

Coaching & Organizing

While a lot of my focus lately has been on my coaching and mental fitness work, I’m still an organizer as well. What I’ve really started to find is the power of a hybrid of the two to help my clients solve their organizing challenges for the long term. If you’d like to learn more, let's chat
